Duty and Guilt Part Two

Enjoy!

He put on some boxers from the overnight bag he had brought earlier and went into Daniel's en-suite bathroom. He looked at the mirror and then let out a little whimper as tears rolled down his cheeks.

"I shouldnt have rushed into it, Im so stupid." He thought.

He jumped as he heard Daniel stirring in the bedroom. He splashed his face with water to disguise the tears just as Daniel walked in.

"The bed was cold without you." Daniel commented, hugging him from behind.

Darren didn't speak; instead, he turned round and hugged him tightly. The tears began rolling down his face once more.

"Whats wrong?" Daniel asked, stroking his back gently, "Shhhhh, dont cry."

Daniel felt awkward, he wasn't used to people crying. Sure, some of his female friends would cry on his shoulder, but never a boyfriend.

"Dazza? I asked you what was wrong." He said when Darren didnt reply.

"Everything." Darren sobbed in response, "I've screwed up big time."

"I wasn't ready," He went on, "I should never have agreed to do, y'know, what we just did."

"You didn't enjoy it?" Daniel asked in a small hurt voice. He was confused.

Darren pulled away from the hug and wiped his eyes slightly.

"I enjoyed it, I mean, it felt really good. You were good. The best I've had. It's just that...I dont know. I feel as though...I don't know. I just regret it." He said the last sentence in a very small voice and the minute the words poured from his mouth, he knew he shouldnt have spoken.

Daniel looked like he had been stabbed in the heart by a thousand daggers as Darrens words echoed around his head. All he could hear was 'I just regret it.' He felt confused and helpless. What had he done to upset Darren? He hadn't forced him; he would never force him into anything. He sighed and tried to blink back the tears that he could feel building up.

"Why did you go along with it if it wasn't what you wanted?" He asked abruptly.

Darren could no longer look him in the eyes so he stared down at the floor.

"I was scared youd dump me." He muttered, so quietly that Daniel couldn't hear.

"What was that?" Daniel asked calmly, even though he could feel his anger levels rising.

Darren looked up this time and looked his partner straight in the eyes.

"I. Was. Scared. You'd. Dump. Me." He spelt out plainly, emphasising each word.

Daniel stared at him mouth open with confusion and pain. It suddenly felt as if the last two months had meant nothing, Darren couldn't even communicate with him.

"So you don't trust me?" Daniel asked bitterly.

"I do, of course I do. I was just scared." Darren replied quickly.

Daniel was looking him up and down as though he were a piece of dirt.

"How the f*ck could you lie to me like that?!?" He shouted, "You could have just told me that I was going too fast. I thought what we did in there was really special, but now it means nothing. You hear that? It means nothing!"

More tears ran from Darren's eyes as Daniel yelled at him. He'd never heard Daniel yell and he was now finding out that it was quite scary.

"How about we get a coffee? We can talk about all of this, I'd like to have chance to explain how I'm feeling." Darren suggested meekly.

Daniel simply stared at him in disgust and disbelief.

"How you're feeling?" He scoffed, "How about how I'm feeling? It hurts when you've been lied to. I would think that after Felicity, you of all people would know that."

"I know that, just please can we talk it through?" Darren begged.

Daniel thought for a moment before turning around and marching out of the bathroom. Darren followed him into the bedroom and watched him get dressed and pick up his car keys.

"Where are you going?" Darren asked pathetically.

"Im going for a drive. Im too mad to talk right now." Daniel replied without even turning to look at Darren.

Darren wanted to argue, but he knew that it was useless. He had to give Daniel the space he needed.

He watched Daniel leave the room and then heard him walk down the stairs and the slam of the front door. He sighed as he heard Daniel's car driving away.

"What have I done?" He asked himself in a whisper as more tears began to roll down his face.

He got back into Daniel's bed and snuggled down in the foetal position, sobbing his heart out.

Meanwhile, Daniel was sat in his car with the radio blaring. He wasn't sure where he was driving to; he just knew that he needed to clear his head. The heavy guitar song that he was listening to finished and a soppy ballad began to play. Quick as a flash, Daniel switched off the radio; he didn't need any reminders of romance at that moment.

He shivered and turned up the heater, it was a deathly cold evening and it was already dark. He began to hum tunelessly; he was desperately trying to clear his head. There was no use thinking about the argument with Darren, after all he knew how he felt. He felt empty. He didn't even want to look at his partner. He sighed. He really thought that what they had done was beautiful, now it just seemed dirty.

"Why didnt Darren just say no!?" He shouted as he punched the steering wheel.

Tears began to pour from his eyes. He tried desperately to hold them back. He never usually cried, but soon they were streaming down his cheeks. His heart was breaking. His vision was a blur, he tried repeatedly to wipe away the tears, but soon they were appearing faster than he could get rid of them.

It soon got to a point where he could no longer see anything but the roadside lamps streaming past. He lifted both his hands from the steering wheel to clear his vision. The car swerved slightly and then everything went black.

Darren was disturbed by the sound of Daniel's telephone, he didn't remember falling asleep, but he was sure that he must have nodded off. He dithered over answering the phone, he wasn't sure whether it was the right thing to do, and after all, it was Daniel's house, but on the other hand, what if it was Daniel? He made a quick decision and answered the phone.
